Penguin Spinning Wheel
The Penguin takes its name from its resemblance to the familiar, web-footed bird. It is a contemporary, quill-type machine which functions in a similar fashion to the traditional quill-type “great wheels” - in that the spinning is done on a long quill or “spindle” rather than on a flyer and bobbin. The penguin has a clever design that makes it a relatively simple wheel on which to learn spinning.
This Penguin is in a “castle” style, with the small wheel and spindle mounted vertically above the larger drive wheel. The construction is oak and ¾ inch oak veneer plywood. The axles are a combination of steel and copper, and the axle bearings are bronze. This wheel is designed to last a lifetime and more. It is finished with a golden oak stain and a polyurethane topcoat.
Price = US$ 500 as shown
Additional quills and a matching "Lazy Kate" are also available if desired. This wheel can be crafted in other hardwoods if desired. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
