Golden Oak Spinning Wheel

Our Golden Oak is a fully functional spinning wheel which is designed and crafted for years of use. However, it would also be a beautiful and traditional addition to your parlor or family room. This wheel is sure to be appreciated by your family for generations to come.

The Golden Oak wheel is a simple, single-band drive type, with scotch tension for the bobbin. The wheel diameter is 22”, driving the flyer at a 6.3:1 ratio. The orifice is 3/8” and located at a height of 30 ½”. It has an overall height of approximately 38" and a length of 28".

This is a traditional styled spinning wheel constructed with modern techniques and selected modern and traditional materials. It is lovingly hand-crafted of durable, solid oak, with a maple flyer and walnut dowel accents. A total of 19 major and intricate spindles are individually turned by hand on a manual lathe (no automatic duplicating equipment is employed). The wheel is of laminated construction with dowelled offset joints for long term stability and smooth turning. Most of the metalwork is brass, with the exception of a steel large wheel axle and bronze wheel and treadle bearings. The flyer bearings and footman connectors are of traditional but fully functional leather. The final finish is a hand-rubbed natural Danish oil.
